Solomon assembles Israel's elders and heads of tribes to bring the ark from the City of David; the priests carry it and the tent of meeting with all holy vessels into the temple. When the priests exit the Holy Place after depositing the ark beneath the cherubim, a cloud fills the temple—the glory of the LORD. Solomon declares the LORD has kept His promise to David; turning to the assembly, he blesses Israel, then prays before the altar with hands spread toward heaven. He asks that when Israel sins and prays toward this temple, God will hear, forgive, and act—whether for oath-taking, military defeat, drought, famine, plague, or foreigners who come to honor God's name. He prays for those fighting battles, for captives who repent, for all petitions made toward this house. After dedicating the temple with twenty-two thousand oxen and one hundred twenty thousand sheep, Solomon and all Israel celebrate fourteen days.
