Rehoboam was Solomon's son who became king after him. When the people asked for lighter burdens, he foolishly followed young advisors and threatened heavier oppression. This caused the kingdom to split, with ten tribes following Jeroboam, leaving Rehoboam only Judah and Benjamin.
