About The Temple

The Temple in Jerusalem was the permanent house of worship built by Solomon on Mount Moriah. Destroyed by Babylon, it was rebuilt by Zerubbabel and later greatly expanded by Herod. Jesus taught in the Temple courts, cleared it of merchants, and predicted its destruction, which occurred in 70 AD.

Biblical Significance of The Temple

The temple was the center of Israelite worship, the place where God's presence dwelt among His people. Solomon's temple replaced the portable tabernacle with a permanent structure of stunning beauty. When Jesus cleansed the temple, He declared His body was the true temple. After the resurrection, believers became the temple of the Holy Spirit, and the church corporately became God's dwelling place. The New Jerusalem needs no temple because God and the Lamb are its temple.
