1 Kings 2 - Summary

Original Summary

Read 1 Kings Chapter 2 Summary

David charges Solomon before his death: walk in the LORD's ways to fulfill the promise to David's house, but deal wisely with Joab who murdered Abner and Amasa, show kindness to Barzillai's sons, and find occasion against Shimei who cursed David. David dies after forty years' reign; Solomon sits securely on the throne. Adonijah's request through Bathsheba for Abishag as wife is interpreted as a bid for the throne; Solomon has him executed by Benaiah. Abiathar is banished to Anathoth, fulfilling judgment on Eli's house. Joab flees to the altar but is struck down by Benaiah, who becomes army commander. Shimei, restricted to Jerusalem on pain of death, pursues escaped slaves to Gath and is executed upon return.
