1 Kings 3 - Summary

Original Summary

Read 1 Kings Chapter 3 Summary

Solomon makes alliance with Pharaoh and marries his daughter; the people still sacrifice at high places since no temple exists. At Gibeon, the LORD appears in a dream offering Solomon whatever he asks; Solomon requests an understanding heart to judge God's people and discern good from evil. Pleased that Solomon asked for wisdom rather than long life, riches, or enemies' lives, God grants unparalleled wisdom plus riches and honor, with long life if Solomon walks in His ways. Solomon's wisdom is immediately tested when two prostitutes claim the same living baby; he orders the child divided, revealing the true mother who surrenders her claim rather than see her son killed. All Israel hears and fears the king whose wisdom comes from God.
