John 19 - Summary

Original Summary

Read John Chapter 19 Summary

Pilate has Jesus scourged, soldiers mock Him with purple robe and crown of thorns, and 'Behold the man' fails to satisfy the crowd crying 'Crucify him' until the accusation of claiming to be Son of God increases Pilate's fear. Despite recognizing Jesus' innocence, Pilate capitulates to threats about being no friend of Caesar and delivers Jesus to be crucified at Golgotha with the multilingual inscription 'Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.' Jesus commits His mother to the beloved disciple's care, declares 'It is finished,' dies, has His side pierced producing blood and water, and is buried by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus in a new tomb with abundant spices.
