Nicodemus

Nicodemus

Pharisee Who Came by Night

New Testament

Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin, the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus secretly at night to learn from Him and heard the famous teaching about being "born again." Though initially cautious, Nicodemus later defended Jesus before the council and ultimately helped Joseph of Arimathea prepare Jesus' body for burial, bringing a costly mixture of myrrh and aloes.

Growing Faith

Nicodemus came at night, perhaps afraid of peers. Later he defended Jesus cautiously. Finally, he publicly associated with Jesus at His burial—the most dangerous time. Faith can grow from secret curiosity to public commitment.
