John 20 - Summary

Original Summary

Read John Chapter 20 Summary

Mary Magdalene discovers the empty tomb and reports to Peter and the beloved disciple, who race there and find the linen cloths lying with the face cloth rolled up separately, with the beloved disciple seeing and believing. Jesus appears to weeping Mary, whom she initially mistakes for the gardener until He speaks her name, then commissions her to announce His ascension to the Father. The risen Jesus appears to gathered disciples on Easter evening, showing His hands and side, breathing the Spirit upon them, and commissioning them with authority to forgive or retain sins, while Thomas, absent that day, refuses to believe until he can touch the wounds, confessing 'My Lord and my God' when Jesus appears a week later.
