John 18 - Summary

Original Summary

Read John Chapter 18 Summary

Jesus crosses the Kidron valley with His disciples to a garden where Judas brings a cohort with lanterns, torches, and weapons, and Jesus' 'I am he' causes them to fall backward before He is arrested after Peter's violent resistance heals a severed ear. The narrative alternates between Jesus' interrogation before Annas and then Caiaphas and Peter's three denials in the courtyard, fulfilled by the rooster's crow. Jesus is delivered to Pilate, who interrogates Him about kingship, hears that His kingdom is not of this world, engages the crowd in the Passover release custom, and ultimately yields to the demand for Barabbas while Jesus faces crucifixion.
