In the seventh month, Ishmael son of Nethaniah, of royal blood, comes with ten men to Mizpah and murders Gedaliah and his companions, both Jews and Chaldeans. He also kills seventy pilgrims from the north and throws bodies into a cistern. Ishmael takes captives toward Ammon, but Johanan pursues and rescues them; Ishmael escapes with eight men.
