Read Joshua Chapter 14

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

These are the lands that the children of Israel received in the land of Canaan. Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the families of the tribes of the children of Israel shared them out to them.

Their inheritance was given by lot, as the LORD had commanded through Moses, for the nine tribes and for the half tribe.

For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and a half tribe on the other side of the Jordan. But to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.

The children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. So they gave no share of the land to the Levites, only cities to live in, with the open land around them for their cattle and their animals.

As the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.

Then the children of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God about me and you at Kadeshbarnea."

"I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to explore the land. I brought him back word just as I truly believed it."

"But my brothers who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt with fear. I, though, followed the LORD my God completely."

"So Moses swore an oath that day. He said, 'The land where your feet have walked will surely be your inheritance, and your children's for ever, because you have followed the LORD my God completely.'"

"And now look, the LORD has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years, ever since the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness. And now, look, today I am eighty-five years old."

"I am still as strong today as I was on the day Moses sent me. My strength then and my strength now are the same, for war, for going out and for coming in."

"So now give me this mountain, which the LORD spoke of that day. You heard that day that the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and walled. If the LORD is with me, then I will be able to drive them out, as the LORD said."

Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance.

So Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite to this day, because he followed the LORD God of Israel completely.

The name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba. This Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
