Ephraim Joseph's Younger Son, Blessed with the Right Hand

About Ephraim

Ephraim was the second son born to Joseph in Egypt, named because God had made him fruitful in the land of his affliction. Jacob crossed his hands over the two boys and set the right hand on him, saying the younger brother would be greater. His tribe became the strongest in the north, and the prophets often call the whole northern kingdom by his name.

Spiritual Lessons from Ephraim

Fruitful in the Wrong Country

Joseph did not name his son for a land of promise but for the land of his affliction, and said God had made him fruitful there. The name keeps both halves: the place was not made good, and something grew in it anyway.
