John 21 - Summary

The epilogue narrates a resurrection appearance by the Sea of Tiberias where Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, James, John, and two others fish all night catching nothing until Jesus directs them to the right side of the boat, yielding 153 large fish without breaking the net. The risen Jesus breakfasts with them on bread and fish cooked over charcoal, then three times asks Peter if he loves Him, commissioning him to feed His lambs and sheep while predicting the manner of death by which Peter would glorify God. Jesus' cryptic saying about the beloved disciple remaining until He comes is clarified as not meaning that disciple would not die, and the Gospel concludes with testimony to its truthfulness and acknowledgment that Jesus did many other things that could not all be written.
