Exodus 32 - Summary

Original Summary

Read Exodus Chapter 32 Summary

During Moses' extended absence, the people pressure Aaron to make gods, and he fashions a golden calf from their earrings, declaring a feast to YHWH. God informs Moses of the apostasy and offers to destroy Israel and make Moses a great nation, but Moses intercedes based on God's reputation and covenant promises. Moses descends, shatters the tablets upon seeing the revelry, destroys the calf, and the Levites execute about three thousand idolaters at his command.

The first person 'filled with the Spirit' was an artist

The very first person the Bible describes as 'filled with the Spirit of God' isn't a prophet or a king, it's Bezalel, a craftsman gifted for artistic design, gold-work and carving to build the Tabernacle (Exodus 31:1-5). Creativity itself is treated as a divine gift.
