Miriam was the elder sister of Moses and Aaron. As a child, she watched over baby Moses in the basket and arranged for their mother to nurse him. After crossing the Red Sea, she led the women in song and dance celebrating God's victory. She was called a prophetess but was also punished with leprosy for challenging Moses' authority.
