2 Samuel 5 - Summary

All the tribes of Israel come to Hebron, acknowledging David as their kinsman who led their campaigns even under Saul, and anoint him king over Israel at age thirty; he reigns forty years total. David captures Jerusalem's stronghold Zion from the Jebusites—despite their taunting about the blind and lame defending it—and makes it the City of David. Hiram of Tyre sends cedar, carpenters, and masons to build David's house; David takes more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, fathering many children including Solomon. When the Philistines spread out in the Valley of Rephaim, David defeats them twice, the second time circling behind at the balsam trees and attacking when he hears the sound of marching in the treetops.
