2 Kings 1 - Summary

After Ahab's death, Moab rebels against Israel. Ahaziah falls through his upper chamber's lattice and sends to inquire of Baal-zebub at Ekron whether he will recover. Elijah intercepts the messengers with the LORD's word: because Ahaziah sought a foreign god, he will not leave his bed but surely die. Ahaziah sends a captain with fifty men; Elijah calls down fire from heaven consuming them. A second captain and fifty suffer the same fate. The third captain kneels and begs for their lives; an angel tells Elijah to go with him. Elijah repeats the judgment to Ahaziah's face, and the king dies. Joram his brother succeeds him.
