2 Chronicles 23 - Summary

Original Summary

Read 2 Chronicles Chapter 23 Summary

In the seventh year, Jehoiada the priest strengthened himself and made a covenant with five military commanders, who gathered the Levites and heads of fathers' houses from throughout Judah, and together they covenanted with the king's son Joash who had been hidden in the temple for six years. Jehoiada armed the Levites with David's weapons stored in the temple, stationed guards around the young king, and brought him out, placing the crown and testimony upon him and anointing him while the people shouted 'Long live the king!' Queen Athaliah rushed to the temple at the commotion, crying 'Treason!' and was executed outside the temple precincts at the horse gate; Jehoiada then made a covenant between himself, the people, and the king that they would be the Lord's people, and they destroyed the house of Baal, killed Mattan the priest of Baal, and restored proper Levitical temple worship as David had organized it, establishing Joash on the throne amid great rejoicing.
