1The burden of the word of the LORD about Israel. This is what the LORD says, the one who spreads out the heavens, and lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him:
2"Look, I will make Jerusalem a cup that makes all the peoples around her stagger. They will lay siege to Judah and to Jerusalem as well."
3On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all peoples. Everyone who tries to lift it will be badly hurt, though all the nations of the earth gather together against her.
4On that day, says the LORD, I will strike every horse with panic, and its rider with madness. I will keep my eyes open on the house of Judah, but I will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness.
5Then the leaders of Judah will say in their hearts, 'The people who live in Jerusalem are my strength through the LORD of hosts, their God.'
6On that day I will make the leaders of Judah like a pan of burning coals among wood, and like a flaming torch among cut grain. They will burn up all the peoples around them, on the right hand and on the left. And Jerusalem will be lived in again in her own place, in Jerusalem.
7The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the people of Jerusalem may not be lifted up above Judah.
8On that day the LORD will defend the people who live in Jerusalem. The weakest among them on that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the LORD going before them.
9On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
10"I will pour out on the house of David and on the people of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and of prayer. They will look on me, the one they have pierced. They will mourn for him as someone mourns for an only son, and weep bitterly for him as someone weeps bitterly for a firstborn son."
11On that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.
12The land will mourn, each family on its own: the family of the house of David on its own, and their wives on their own; the family of the house of Nathan on its own, and their wives on their own;
13the family of the house of Levi on its own, and their wives on their own; the family of Shimei on its own, and their wives on their own;
14all the families that are left, each family on its own, and their wives on their own.
