Zechariah 13 - Simple English

OriginalSimple EnglishSimpleNew Summary

Read Zechariah Chapter 13

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

1On that day a fountain will be opened for the house of David and for the people living in Jerusalem, to wash away sin and uncleanness.

2On that day, says the LORD of hosts, I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will not be remembered any more. I will also drive the prophets and the unclean spirit out of the land.

3If anyone still prophesies, his own father and mother who gave him birth will say to him, "You shall not live, for you speak lies in the name of the LORD." And his own father and mother who gave him birth will run him through while he prophesies.

4On that day every prophet will be ashamed of his vision when he has prophesied. They will not wear a rough coat to deceive people.

5Instead he will say, "I am no prophet. I work the ground, for someone taught me to keep cattle from the time I was young."

6And someone will say to him, "What are these wounds in your hands?" Then he will answer, "Those are the wounds I was given in the house of my friends."

7Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is my companion, says the LORD of hosts. Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the little ones.

8In all the land, says the LORD, two parts of the people will be cut off and die, but a third will be left in it.

9I will bring that third part through the fire. I will refine them as silver is refined, and test them as gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, "They are my people," and they will say, "The LORD is my God."
