Luke 22 - Summary

Original Summary

Read Luke Chapter 22 Summary

As Passover approaches, Satan enters Judas Iscariot who arranges betrayal for money, while Jesus sends Peter and John to prepare the upper room where He institutes the Lord's Supper, identifying bread as His body given for them and the cup as the new covenant in His blood. After predicting betrayal and teaching that greatness comes through service, Jesus promises thrones judging Israel's tribes, warns Peter of Satan's sifting and his coming denial, instructs about swords, and agonizes in Gethsemane with sweat like drops of blood while an angel strengthens Him. Judas' kiss-betrayal leads to Jesus' arrest after He heals the servant's severed ear, Peter denies Him three times before the rooster crows, guards mock and beat Him, and the Sanhedrin trial elicits His affirmation of divine sonship.

Luke Wrote for Gentiles

Luke is the only Gentile author in the New Testament. A physician by profession, he wrote his Gospel and Acts specifically for a Gentile audience, tracing Jesus' genealogy all the way back to Adam, father of all humanity.
