Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

Now the feast of unleavened bread was near. It is called the Passover.

The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a way to kill him, because they were afraid of the people.

Then Satan entered into Judas, who was called Iscariot. He was one of the twelve.

He went away and talked with the chief priests and the captains about how he might hand Jesus over to them.

They were glad, and they agreed to give him money.

He promised to do it, and he looked for a chance to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was there.

Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the Passover lamb had to be killed.

Jesus sent Peter and John. He said, "Go and prepare the Passover meal for us, so that we may eat it."

They said to him, "Where do you want us to prepare it?"

He said to them, "Look, when you have gone into the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters."

"Say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says to you: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?'"

"He will show you a large upper room, all set out. Make it ready there."

They went and found everything as he had told them, and they made the Passover ready.

When the hour came, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.

He said to them, "I have greatly longed to eat this Passover with you before I suffer."

"For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."

Then he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, "Take this, and share it among yourselves."

"For I tell you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."

He took bread, and gave thanks, and broke it, and gave it to them. He said, "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

In the same way he took the cup after supper, and said, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you."

"But look, the hand of the man who betrays me is with me on the table."

"Truly the Son of man goes as it was decided. But how terrible for that man who betrays him."

They began to ask each other which of them it was who would do this.

There was also an argument among them about which of them should be thought the greatest.

He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles rule over them, and those who have authority over them are called benefactors."

"But you are not to be like that. Let the greatest among you be like the youngest, and the one who leads be like the one who serves."

"For who is greater, the one who sits at the table, or the one who serves? Is it not the one who sits at the table? But I am among you as one who serves."

"You are the ones who have stayed with me in my trials."

"And I give you a kingdom, just as my Father has given one to me,"

"so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel."

The Lord said, "Simon, Simon, look, Satan has asked to have you, to sift you like wheat."

"But I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."

Peter said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you, both to prison and to death."

Jesus said, "I tell you, Peter, the cock will not crow today before you have denied three times that you know me."

He said to them, "When I sent you out without purse, or bag, or shoes, did you lack anything?" They said, "Nothing."

Then he said to them, "But now, whoever has a purse, let him take it, and his bag as well. And whoever has no sword, let him sell his coat and buy one."

"For I tell you, this that is written must still be carried out in me: 'And he was counted among the wrongdoers.' For what is written about me is coming to its end."

They said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." He said to them, "It is enough."

He came out and went, as he usually did, to the mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.

When he came to the place, he said to them, "Pray that you do not come into temptation."

He went away from them about as far as a stone can be thrown, and he knelt down and prayed.

He said, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Yet let not my will be done, but yours."

An angel from heaven appeared to him, giving him strength.

In deep anguish he prayed still more earnestly, and his sweat was like great drops of blood falling to the ground.

When he rose from prayer and came to his disciples, he found them asleep, worn out by sorrow.

He said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray, so that you do not come into temptation."

While he was still speaking, look, a crowd came. The man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He came near to Jesus to kiss him.

But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of man with a kiss?"

When those around him saw what was going to happen, they said to him, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?"

One of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.

Jesus answered, "Allow even this." And he touched the man's ear and healed him.

Then Jesus said to the chief priests, and the captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to him, "Have you come out with swords and clubs, as against a robber?"

"When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness."

Then they seized him and led him away, and brought him into the high priest's house. Peter followed a long way behind.

They lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, and Peter sat down among them.

A servant girl saw him sitting by the fire. She looked closely at him and said, "This man was with him too."

But he denied it. He said, "Woman, I do not know him."

A little later someone else saw him and said, "You are one of them too." Peter said, "Man, I am not."

About an hour later another man insisted, "It is true, this man was with him too, for he is a Galilaean."

Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are talking about." At once, while he was still speaking, the cock crowed.

The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, "Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times."

Peter went outside and wept bitterly.

The men who were holding Jesus mocked him and beat him.

They blindfolded him and struck him on the face. They asked him, "Prophesy. Who is it that hit you?"

And they said many other insulting things against him.

As soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes met together. They led him into their council and said,

"Are you the Christ? Tell us." He said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe me."

"And if I ask you a question, you will not answer me or let me go."

"From now on the Son of man will sit at the right hand of the power of God."

Then they all said, "Are you then the Son of God?" He said to them, "You say that I am."

They said, "Why do we need any more witnesses? We have heard it ourselves from his own mouth."
