Zacchaeus the chief tax collector, short in stature, climbs a sycamore tree to see Jesus, who calls him down to host Him, prompting the tax collector's pledge to give half his goods to the poor and restore fourfold any extortion, with Jesus declaring salvation has come to this house. The parable of the ten minas entrusted to servants while the nobleman goes to receive a kingdom and returns for accounting teaches faithful stewardship, with the profitable servants receiving cities and the one who hid his mina losing even what he has. Jesus enters Jerusalem riding a colt with disciples spreading garments and praising God, weeps over the city that does not know what makes for peace and will be destroyed, then cleanses the temple of merchants while teaching daily as chief priests and scribes seek to destroy Him.
Jericho, one of the oldest cities in the world, was the first Canaanite city conquered by the Israelites after crossing the Jordan River. Its walls famously fell after the Israelites marched around it for seven days as commanded by God through Joshua. Jesus later passed through Jericho, healing blind Bartimaeus and dining with the tax collector Zacchaeus.
Bethany was a village on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives, about 3 kilometers from Jerusalem. It was the home of Jesus' close friends Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead here, one of his most significant miracles. Jesus often stayed in Bethany during his visits to Jerusalem, and it was from here that he ascended to heaven.
The Mount of Olives is a mountain ridge east of Jerusalem with profound significance in Jesus' life. He often went there to pray, delivered the Olivet Discourse about end times, and spent his last night in the Garden of Gethsemane at its base. Jesus ascended to heaven from this mountain, and Zechariah prophesied that the Messiah would return there.
The Temple in Jerusalem was the permanent house of worship built by Solomon on Mount Moriah. Destroyed by Babylon, it was rebuilt by Zerubbabel and later greatly expanded by Herod. Jesus taught in the Temple courts, cleared it of merchants, and predicted its destruction, which occurred in 70 AD.
