The Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded, who went to meet Asa with prophetic encouragement: the Lord is with you while you are with Him; if you seek Him, He will be found, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you. Azariah recalled Israel's troubled past when they were without the true God, teaching priest, and law, and encouraged Asa that his work would be rewarded. Strengthened by this prophecy, Asa removed abominations, repaired the altar, and assembled all Judah and Benjamin along with sojourners from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon who had defected when they saw the Lord was with him; they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord wholeheartedly, executing anyone who would not seek Him, and the Lord gave them rest on every side.
