1 Samuel 14 - Summary

Jonathan and his armor-bearer secretly climb to the Philistine garrison at Michmash, killing about twenty men, and God sends panic and earthquake among the Philistines who begin killing each other. Saul's watchmen see the tumult; without inquiring properly of God, Saul leads the pursuit while rashly binding the army by oath not to eat until evening. Jonathan, unknowingly having violated the oath by eating honey, revives, while the famished troops sin by eating meat with blood. When Saul seeks to pursue by night, the priest suggests inquiring of God, but God does not answer; lots reveal Jonathan's violation. Saul would execute Jonathan, but the people ransom him who has brought this great salvation.
