Hiram of Tyre, hearing Solomon has been anointed, sends congratulations; Solomon requests cedar and cypress from Lebanon for the temple, since David could not build because of constant warfare. Hiram rejoices, agreeing to supply timber for twenty thousand cors of wheat and twenty thousand baths of oil annually. They make a treaty; Solomon conscripts thirty thousand forced laborers, sending ten thousand per month to Lebanon in rotation, plus seventy thousand burden-bearers and eighty thousand stonecutters in the hills, supervised by thirty-three hundred officers who hew great costly stones for the foundation.
