Mark 10 - Summary

Original Summary

Read Mark Chapter 10 Summary

Jesus teaches on divorce in response to Pharisaic testing, affirming creation's one-flesh union, permitting separation only for hardness of heart, and declaring remarriage after divorce to be adultery. He blesses children brought to Him despite disciples' rebuke, encounters the rich man who sorrowfully departs after being told to sell all and follow, and teaches about wealth's peril and the reversal of first and last. James and John's request for chief seats prompts teaching that greatness comes through servant leadership and that the Son of Man came to serve and give His life as a ransom for many, while blind Bartimaeus' persistent faith is rewarded with healing and following Jesus on the way.

Mark Originally Ended with Fear

The earliest manuscripts of Mark end abruptly at 16:8 with the women fleeing the tomb in fear and saying nothing to anyone. The longer ending (verses 9-20) was added later by scribes who thought this ending too sudden.
