Mark 9 - Summary

Original Summary

Read Mark Chapter 9 Summary

The Transfiguration on a high mountain reveals Jesus' glory to Peter, James, and John, with Moses and Elijah appearing and the Father's voice from the cloud commanding them to hear His beloved Son, followed by teaching that Elijah has already come in John. Descending, Jesus heals a boy with a mute and deaf spirit whom the disciples could not cure, teaching that this kind comes out only by prayer, and again predicts His death and resurrection while the disciples remain uncomprehending and afraid to ask. In Capernaum, Jesus teaches on greatness through childlike humility, forbids sectarian exclusivism against exorcists using His name, warns severely against causing little ones to stumble, and employs hyperbolic imagery of cutting off hand, foot, and eye to avoid hell's unquenchable fire.
