Read John Chapter 21

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

After this Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias. This is how he showed himself.

Simon Peter was there together with Thomas (called Didymus), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.

Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We will come with you too." They went out and got into a boat at once. That night they caught nothing.

When morning came, Jesus stood on the shore. But the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.

Then Jesus said to them, "Children, have you any food?" They answered him, "No."

And he said to them, "Throw the net out on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they threw it out. And now they could not pull it in, because there were so many fish.

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord." When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he wrapped his fisherman's coat around him (for he was naked), and threw himself into the sea.

The other disciples came in a little boat, dragging the net with the fish in it. They were not far from land, only about two hundred cubits away.

As soon as they came to land, they saw a fire of coals there, with fish laid on it, and bread.

Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish which you have just caught."

Simon Peter went up and pulled the net to land. It was full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three of them. And even with so many, the net was not torn.

Jesus said to them, "Come and eat." And none of the disciples dared ask him, "Who are you?" for they knew it was the Lord.

Then Jesus came and took bread and gave it to them, and the fish in the same way.

This was now the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.

When they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs."

He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Take care of my sheep."

He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep."

"I tell you the truth, when you were young, you dressed yourself and walked wherever you wanted. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go."

He said this to show by what death Peter would glorify God. And when he had said this, he said to him, "Follow me."

Then Peter turned round and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them. This was the one who had leaned on his chest at the supper and said, "Lord, who is it that betrays you?"

When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, and what about this man?"

Jesus said to him, "If I want him to stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me."

So this saying spread among the brothers and sisters, that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, "If I want him to stay until I come, what is that to you?"

This is the disciple who gives witness about these things, and who wrote these things. And we know that his witness is true.

There are also many other things which Jesus did. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the world itself could not hold the books that would be written. Amen.
