Judges 14 - Summary

Samson demands his parents get him a Philistine woman from Timnah as wife; though they protest, this is from the LORD seeking an occasion against the Philistines. On the way, the Spirit of the LORD rushes upon Samson and he tears apart a young lion bare-handed; returning later, he finds a bee swarm and honey in the carcass. At his wedding feast, Samson poses a riddle about the lion and honey—"Out of the eater came something to eat, out of the strong came something sweet"—wagering thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothes. After his wife extracts the answer through seven days of weeping, Samson, Spirit-empowered, kills thirty men at Ashkelon to pay the wager, then returns home in anger while his wife is given to his companion.
