As the famine intensifies, Joseph acquires all Egypt's money, livestock, and eventually their land for Pharaoh in exchange for grain, establishing a twenty-percent tax. Jacob lives seventeen years in Egypt and makes Joseph swear to bury him in Canaan with his fathers.
