2 Kings 7 - Summary

Elisha prophesies that tomorrow a seah of fine flour will sell for a shekel at Samaria's gate; the captain mocking him is told he will see it but not eat of it. Four lepers at the gate reason that entering the city means death by famine, so they go to the Syrian camp seeking mercy. They find it abandoned—the LORD made the Syrians hear the sound of a great army and they fled, leaving everything. The lepers feast, hide silver and gold, then report to the gatekeepers. The king suspects an ambush but sends scouts who trace the Syrians' panicked flight to the Jordan, abandoned garments and equipment everywhere. The people plunder the camp; flour and barley sell as prophesied. The skeptical captain is trampled to death in the gate rush.
