Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

When Rehoboam had made his kingdom firm and had grown strong, he abandoned the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.

In the fifth year of king Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt marched against Jerusalem, because they had sinned against the LORD.

He came with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen. The people who came with him out of Egypt could not be counted: the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.

He captured the walled cities that belonged to Judah, and he came to Jerusalem.

Then Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and to the leaders of Judah, who had gathered in Jerusalem because of Shishak. He said to them, "This is what the LORD says: 'You have abandoned me, and so I have also left you in the hand of Shishak.'"

Then the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves, and they said, "The LORD is righteous."

When the LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah: "They have humbled themselves. So I will not destroy them, but I will give them some deliverance. My anger will not be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak."

"But they will be his servants, so that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kingdoms of other lands."

So Shishak king of Egypt marched against Jerusalem. He took away the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the king's house. He took everything. He also carried away the shields of gold that Solomon had made.

In their place king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and he gave them into the care of the chief of the guard, who watched the entrance of the king's house.

Whenever the king went into the house of the LORD, the guard came and carried the shields, and afterwards brought them back to the guard room.

Because he humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned away from him, and he was not completely destroyed. And in Judah things went well.

So king Rehoboam made himself strong in Jerusalem and reigned. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city that the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah, an Ammonite woman.

He did evil, because he did not set his heart to seek the LORD.

The acts of Rehoboam, from first to last, are they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer, in the records of family lines? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the time.

Rehoboam slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David. And Abijah his son reigned in his place.
