Read 1 Chronicles Chapter 16

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

So they brought in the ark of God and set it in the middle of the tent that David had put up for it. Then they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.

When David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.

He gave to every one of Israel, both man and woman, a loaf of bread, a good piece of meat, and a flagon of wine.

He appointed some of the Levites to serve before the ark of the LORD, to make record, and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel:

Asaph was the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, and Obededom. Jeiel played with lutes and with harps, but Asaph sounded the cymbals.

Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests blew trumpets all the time before the ark of the covenant of God.

Then on that day David first gave this psalm of thanks to the LORD into the hand of Asaph and his brothers.

Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name, make his deeds known among the peoples.

Sing to him, sing psalms to him, talk of all his wonderful works.

Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face always.

Remember the marvellous works he has done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth,

you children of Israel his servant, you children of Jacob, his chosen ones.

He is the LORD our God. His judgments are in all the earth.

Always keep in mind his covenant, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,

the covenant which he made with Abraham, and his oath to Isaac.

He confirmed it to Jacob as a law, and to Israel as an everlasting covenant,

saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan, the portion you will inherit,"

when you were only a few, very few, and strangers in it.

They went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people.

He allowed no one to do them wrong. Yes, he rebuked kings for their sake,

saying, "Do not touch my anointed ones, and do my prophets no harm."

Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Show his salvation from day to day.

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous works among all peoples.

For the LORD is great, and is to be greatly praised. He is to be feared above all gods.

For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.

Glory and honour are in his presence. Strength and gladness are in his place.

Give to the LORD, you families of the peoples, give to the LORD glory and strength.

Give to the LORD the glory due to his name. Bring an offering, and come before him. Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

Fear before him, all the earth. The world also will be firm, and will not be moved.

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice. Let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns."

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it. Let the fields rejoice, and everything in them.

Then the trees of the wood will sing out before the LORD, because he comes to judge the earth.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His mercy lasts for ever.

And say, "Save us, O God of our salvation. Gather us together and rescue us from the nations, so that we may give thanks to your holy name, and glory in your praise."

Blessed be the LORD God of Israel for ever and ever. And all the people said, "Amen," and praised the LORD.

So David left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to serve before the ark all the time, as each day's work required.

He left Obededom with their brothers, sixty-eight of them. Obededom the son of Jeduthun and Hosah were to be gatekeepers.

He left Zadok the priest, and his brothers the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at Gibeon,

to offer burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering all the time, morning and evening, and to do everything that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel.

With them were Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen and named, to give thanks to the LORD, because his mercy lasts for ever.

With them were Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those who should make the sound, and with musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were gatekeepers.

Then all the people went away, each to his own house. And David returned to bless his household.
