David prepared a proper place for the ark in Jerusalem and acknowledged that the previous disaster occurred because the Levites had not carried it according to the ordinance, recognizing that the ark must be transported on poles by the consecrated sons of Kohath. The Levites sanctified themselves, and David appointed musicians including Asaph, Heman, and Ethan (Jeduthun) with their various instruments to lead the worship, while Chenaniah directed the music because of his skill. The ark was brought up with great rejoicing, sacrifices, and celebration, though Michal daughter of Saul observed from a window and despised David in her heart for his undignified dancing before the Lord.
