John 16 - Summary

Original Summary

Read John Chapter 16 Summary

Jesus prepares disciples for persecution by warning that they will be expelled from synagogues and even killed by those who think they are offering service to God, with these things told so that when the hour comes they will remember His words. The Spirit's coming after Jesus' departure will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and guide disciples into all truth, declaring things to come and glorifying Jesus by taking what is His and declaring it to them. Jesus' cryptic saying about 'a little while' and the woman in childbirth analogy teach that present sorrow will turn to joy no one can take away, and though they will be scattered and leave Him alone, the Father is with Him, and in Him they have peace despite tribulation since He has overcome the world.
