Read Isaiah Chapter 11

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

A shoot will come up out of the stump of Jesse, and a Branch will grow out of his roots.

The spirit of the LORD will rest upon him: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.

It will make him quick to understand in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what his eyes see, and he will not decide by what his ears hear.

But with righteousness he will judge the poor, and he will give fair decisions for the meek of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

Righteousness will be the belt around his waist, and faithfulness the belt around his hips.

The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat. The calf, the young lion, and the fattened beast will be together, and a little child will lead them.

The cow and the bear will feed, and their young ones will lie down together. The lion will eat straw like the ox.

The nursing child will play at the hole of the asp, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper's den.

They will not hurt or destroy anywhere on my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

In that day the root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples. The nations will seek him, and his resting place will be glorious.

In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to bring back the remnant of his people who are left, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

He will raise a banner for the nations. He will gather the outcasts of Israel, and bring together the scattered people of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

The envy of Ephraim will go away, and the enemies of Judah will be cut off. Ephraim will not envy Judah, and Judah will not trouble Ephraim.

But they will swoop down on the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west. Together they will plunder the people of the east. They will lay their hand on Edom and Moab, and the children of Ammon will obey them.

The LORD will completely destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea. With his mighty wind he will shake his hand over the River. He will strike it into seven streams, and make people cross it with dry feet.

There will be a highway for the remnant of his people who are left, from Assyria, just as there was for Israel in the day when they came up out of the land of Egypt.
