In a vision, the Spirit transports Ezekiel to Jerusalem's temple where God shows him the escalating abominations: an image of jealousy at the gate, seventy elders burning incense to painted idols, women weeping for Tammuz, and twenty-five men worshiping the sun with their backs to the temple. God's jealousy is provoked to fury.

The Temple
The Temple

The Temple in Jerusalem was the permanent house of worship built by Solomon on Mount Moriah. Destroyed by Babylon, it was rebuilt by Zerubbabel and later greatly expanded by Herod. Jesus taught in the Temple courts, cleared it of merchants, and predicted its destruction, which occurred in 70 AD.
