Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His mercy lasts for ever.
Who can tell the mighty acts of the LORD? Who can speak out all his praise?
Blessed are those who keep justice, and the one who does righteousness at all times.
Remember me, LORD, with the favour you show to your people. Come to me with your salvation.
Then I will see the good of your chosen ones. I will rejoice with the gladness of your nation. I will glory along with your inheritance.
We have sinned, as our fathers did. We have done wrong. We have acted wickedly.
Our fathers did not understand your wonders in Egypt. They did not remember how many your mercies were. Instead they rebelled against him at the sea, at the Red Sea.
Even so he saved them for his name's sake, to make his mighty power known.
He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up. So he led them through the deep waters, as through a desert.
He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them. He redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
The waters covered their enemies. Not one of them was left.
Then they believed his words. They sang his praise.
They soon forgot what he had done. They did not wait for his counsel.
They were filled with greedy craving in the wilderness, and they tested God in the desert.
He gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting sickness into their soul.
The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan. It covered the company of Abiram.
A fire was lit among their company. The flame burned up the wicked.
They made a calf at Horeb, and worshipped the metal image.
So they exchanged their glory for the likeness of an ox that eats grass.
They forgot God their saviour, who had done great things in Egypt,
So he said that he would destroy them. But Moses, his chosen one, stood before him in the gap, to turn away his anger, so that he would not destroy them.
Yes, they despised the pleasant land. They did not believe his word,
but grumbled in their tents, and did not listen to the voice of the LORD.
So he lifted up his hand against them, swearing to strike them down in the wilderness,
to strike down their children among the nations too, and to scatter them through the lands.
They joined themselves to Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.
So they stirred him to anger by what they did, and a plague broke out among them.
Then Phinehas stood up and carried out judgment, and so the plague was stopped.
That was counted to him as righteousness, through all generations for ever.
They made him angry at the waters of strife as well, and because of them it went badly for Moses.
For they provoked his spirit, so that he spoke rashly with his lips.
They did not destroy the nations, as the LORD had commanded them.
Instead they mixed with the nations, and learned their ways.
They served their idols, which became a trap for them.
Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.
They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. The land was polluted with blood.
So they were made unclean by their own deeds, and were unfaithful in what they did.
So the anger of the LORD burned against his people. He hated his own inheritance.
He gave them into the hand of the nations. Those who hated them ruled over them.
Their enemies crushed them too, and they were brought under their hand.
Many times he rescued them. But they rebelled with their plans, and were brought low for their sin.
Even so, he looked on their trouble when he heard their cry.
He remembered his covenant for their sake, and relented, because his mercies were so many.
He also made all those who carried them away captive feel pity for them.
Save us, LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, so that we may give thanks to your holy name, and triumph in your praise.
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, "Amen." Praise the LORD.
