When the sabbath was over, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
And look, there was a great earthquake. For the angel of the Lord came down from heaven. He came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.
His face was like lightning, and his clothes were as white as snow.
The guards shook with fear of him, and became like dead men.
The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified."
"He is not here. He has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where the Lord lay."
"Go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead. And look, he is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there. Listen, I have told you."
So they left the tomb quickly, with fear and great joy. They ran to bring word to his disciples.
As they went to tell his disciples, look, Jesus met them. He said, "Greetings." They came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go into Galilee. They will see me there."
While they were going, look, some of the guard went into the city. They told the chief priests everything that had happened.
The chief priests met with the elders and talked it over. Then they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers.
They said, "Say this: 'His disciples came in the night and stole him away while we were asleep.'"
"And if this reaches the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and keep you safe."
So they took the money and did as they were told. And this story is still told among the Jews to this day.
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
When they saw him, they worshipped him. But some doubted.
Jesus came and spoke to them. He said, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me."
"So go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
"Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And listen, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Amen."
