Lamentations 1 - Summary

Original Summary

Read Lamentations Chapter 1 Summary

Jerusalem personified as a desolate widow laments her fallen state, once full of people but now sitting solitary, once princess among provinces but now become tributary. Her lovers and friends have betrayed her, her priests and elders groan while seeking bread, and she acknowledges the LORD's righteous judgment because she grievously rebelled against His commandments. The city appeals to passersby to behold whether any sorrow compares to hers, as the LORD has afflicted her in the day of His fierce anger, sent fire into her bones, spread a net for her feet, and delivered her into the hands of those she cannot withstand.
