James 2 - Summary

The royal law of love forbids partiality—showing preference to the rich over the poor violates the command to love neighbor as self and makes one a transgressor of the whole law. The famous faith-works dialectic argues that faith without works is dead, demonstrated through Abraham who was justified by works when he offered Isaac, and Rahab who was justified when she received the messengers. Just as the body without spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead—even demons believe and tremble, but such belief without obedience profits nothing.
