The author warns against drifting from salvation, then explains why Christ became lower than angels for a time: through death He might destroy the devil's power and free those enslaved by fear of death. Jesus became fully human to serve as a merciful and faithful high priest, making atonement for sins and able to help those being tempted because He himself suffered when tempted.
