Read Ezekiel Chapter 40

Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

In the twenty-fifth year of our captivity, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was struck down - on that very day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me there.

In visions from God he brought me into the land of Israel. He set me down on a very high mountain. On its south side there was something like the structure of a city.

He brought me there, and look, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze. He had a cord of linen in his hand and a measuring rod, and he stood in the gateway.

The man said to me, "Son of man, look with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and give your full attention to everything I show you. You have been brought here so that I might show these things to you. Tell everything you see to the house of Israel."

And look, there was a wall all around the outside of the house. In the man's hand was a measuring rod six cubits long, each cubit being a cubit and a hand's breadth. So he measured the thickness of the building: one rod. And the height: one rod.

Then he came to the gate that faces east. He went up its steps and measured the threshold of the gate: one rod wide. And the other threshold was one rod wide.

Each little room was one rod long and one rod wide. Between the little rooms there were five cubits. The threshold of the gate beside the porch of the gate, on the inside, was one rod.

He also measured the porch of the gate on the inside: one rod.

Then he measured the porch of the gate: eight cubits. Its posts were two cubits. The porch of the gate faced inward.

The little rooms of the east gate were three on one side and three on the other. The three were all of one measure. The posts on this side and on that side had one measure.

He measured the width of the entrance of the gate: ten cubits. And the length of the gate: thirteen cubits.

The space in front of the little rooms was one cubit on one side, and the space was one cubit on the other side. The little rooms were six cubits on one side and six cubits on the other.

Then he measured the gate from the roof of one little room to the roof of another. The width was twenty-five cubits, door facing door.

He also made posts of sixty cubits, reaching to the post of the court all around the gate.

From the front of the entrance gate to the front of the porch of the inner gate was fifty cubits.

There were narrow windows for the little rooms, and for their posts inside the gate all around, and likewise for the arches. There were windows all around on the inside. And on each post were palm trees.

Then he brought me into the outer court, and look, there were rooms there, and a pavement made for the court all around. Thirty rooms stood on the pavement.

The pavement ran along the side of the gates, matching the length of the gates. This was the lower pavement.

Then he measured the distance from the front of the lower gate to the front of the inner court on the outside: a hundred cubits, on the east side and on the north.

As for the gate of the outer court that faces north, he measured its length and its width.

Its little rooms were three on one side and three on the other. Its posts and its arches matched the measure of the first gate. Its length was fifty cubits and its width twenty-five cubits.

Its windows, its arches and its palm trees matched the measure of the gate that faces east. Seven steps led up to it, and its arches were in front of them.

There was a gate of the inner court opposite the gate on the north, and also on the east. He measured from gate to gate: a hundred cubits.

After that he brought me toward the south, and look, there was a gate facing south. He measured its posts and its arches, and they had the same measures.

There were windows in it and in its arches all around, like those other windows. The length was fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits.

Seven steps led up to it, and its arches were in front of them. It had palm trees on its posts, one on this side and another on that side.

There was a gate in the inner court facing south. He measured from gate to gate toward the south: a hundred cubits.

He brought me to the inner court through the south gate, and he measured the south gate. It had the same measures:

its little rooms, its posts and its arches had the same measures. There were windows in it and in its arches all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.

The arches all around were twenty-five cubits long and five cubits wide.

Its arches faced the outer court, and palm trees were on its posts. Eight steps led up to it.

He brought me into the inner court on the east side, and he measured the gate. It had the same measures:

its little rooms, its posts and its arches had the same measures. There were windows in it and in its arches all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.

Its arches faced the outer court, and palm trees were on its posts, on this side and on that side. Eight steps led up to it.

He brought me to the north gate and measured it. It had the same measures:

its little rooms, its posts and its arches, and its windows all around. The length was fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits.

Its posts faced the outer court, and palm trees were on its posts, on this side and on that side. Eight steps led up to it.

The rooms and their entrances were by the posts of the gates, where they washed the burnt offering.

In the porch of the gate were two tables on one side and two tables on the other side, on which to kill the burnt offering, the sin offering and the trespass offering.

On the outer side, as you go up to the entrance of the north gate, were two tables. And on the other side, at the porch of the gate, were two tables.

There were four tables on one side and four tables on the other side, beside the gate: eight tables, on which they killed their sacrifices.

The four tables for the burnt offering were of cut stone, a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide and one cubit high. On them they also laid the tools with which they killed the burnt offering and the sacrifice.

Inside, hooks a hand's breadth long were fastened all around. And on the tables was the flesh of the offering.

Outside the inner gate were the rooms of the singers in the inner court, at the side of the north gate. They faced south. One was at the side of the east gate, facing north.

He said to me, "This room, which faces south, is for the priests who keep charge of the house."

"And the room that faces north is for the priests who keep charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok among the sons of Levi, who come near to the LORD to serve him."

So he measured the court: a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide, square. And the altar stood in front of the house.

He brought me to the porch of the house and measured each post of the porch: five cubits on one side and five cubits on the other. The width of the gate was three cubits on one side and three cubits on the other.

The length of the porch was twenty cubits and the width eleven cubits. He brought me up by the steps that led to it. There were pillars by the posts, one on this side and another on that side.
