In the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me:

"Son of man, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his crowds of people: Who are you like in your greatness?"

"Look, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon, with beautiful branches, with shade like a covering, and very tall. Its top was among the thick boughs."

"The waters made it great. The deep made it grow high, with her rivers running all around the place where it was planted. She sent out her little streams to all the trees of the field."

"So it grew taller than all the trees of the field. Its boughs became many, and its branches grew long, because there was so much water when it sent them out."

"All the birds of the sky made their nests in its boughs. Under its branches all the animals of the field gave birth to their young. In its shadow lived all the great nations."

"So it was beautiful in its greatness, with its long branches, because its roots were beside plenty of water."

"The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it. The fir trees were not like its boughs, and the chestnut trees were not like its branches. No tree in the garden of God was as beautiful as it was."

"I made it beautiful with its many branches, so that all the trees of Eden, which were in the garden of God, were jealous of it."

"So this is what the Lord GOD says: Because you have lifted yourself up high, and because it shot its top up among the thick boughs, and its heart was proud of its height,"

"I have handed it over to the mighty one of the nations. He will surely deal with it. I have driven it out because of its wickedness."

"Strangers, the most terrifying of the nations, have cut it down and left it. On the mountains and in all the valleys its branches have fallen, and its boughs lie broken by all the rivers of the land. All the peoples of the earth have gone out of its shadow and left it."

"On its ruins all the birds of the sky will settle, and all the animals of the field will be on its branches,"

"so that none of the trees beside the waters may lift themselves up because of their height, or shoot their top up among the thick boughs, and none of the trees that drink water may stand tall in their own height. For they are all given over to death, to the lower parts of the earth, among the children of men, with those who go down to the pit."

"This is what the Lord GOD says: On the day when it went down to the grave I caused mourning. I covered the deep for it, and I held back its floods, and the great waters were stopped. I made Lebanon mourn for it, and all the trees of the field grew weak because of it."

"I made the nations shake at the sound of its fall, when I threw it down to hell with those who go down into the pit. And all the trees of Eden, the choicest and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the lower parts of the earth."

"They also went down with it into hell, to those killed by the sword; and so did those who were its arm, who lived in its shadow among the nations."

"Which of the trees of Eden are you like in glory and in greatness? Yet you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the lower parts of the earth. You will lie among the uncircumcised, with those killed by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his crowds of people, says the Lord GOD."
