2 Peter 1 - Summary

Original Summary

Read 2 Peter Chapter 1 Summary

Simon Peter, servant and apostle, writes to those who have obtained equally precious faith, praying that grace and peace multiply through knowledge of God who has granted all things pertaining to life and godliness and exceeding great promises making them partakers of divine nature. Believers must add to faith virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love—those lacking these are blind and have forgotten their purification. Peter, knowing his departure is imminent as Christ revealed, reminds them that the apostles did not follow cleverly devised fables but were eyewitnesses of Christ's majesty at the Transfiguration; prophecy came not by human will but as holy men spoke moved by the Holy Spirit.
