Believers must add to faith virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love—those lacking these are blind and have forgotten their purification. Peter, knowing his departure is imminent as Christ revealed, reminds them that the apostles did not follow cleverly devised fables but were eyewitnesses of Christ's majesty at the Transfiguration; prophecy came not by human will but as holy men spoke moved by the Holy Spirit.
