Up and down arrows move from one verse to the next.

Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David. He also sent cedar wood, and stonemasons and carpenters, to build him a house.

David saw that the LORD had made him firm as king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up high, because of his people Israel.

David took more wives in Jerusalem, and he was the father of more sons and daughters.

These are the names of the children he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

Ibhar, Elishua, Elpalet,

Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,

Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphalet.

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to look for David. David heard of it and went out against them.

The Philistines came and spread themselves out in the valley of Rephaim.

David asked God, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The LORD said to him, "Go up, for I will hand them over to you."

So they came up to Baalperazim, and David struck them down there. Then David said, "God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like water bursting through." So they called that place Baalperazim.

The Philistines left their gods behind there, and David gave an order, and the gods were burned with fire.

The Philistines spread themselves out in the valley once again.

So David asked God again. God said to him, "Do not go up after them. Turn away from them, and come at them opposite the mulberry trees."

"When you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike down the army of the Philistines."

So David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines from Gibeon all the way to Gazer.

The fame of David went out into all lands, and the LORD made all nations fear him.
