Jerusalem TempleThe Jerusalem Temple was the center of Israelite worship, built on Mount Moriah where Abraham nearly sacrificed Isaac. Solomon constructed the First Temple around 960 BC, which Babylon destroyed in 586 BC. The Second Temple was rebuilt after the exile and later expanded by Herod the Great into a magnificent complex. Jesus taught in its courts, cleansed it twice, and prophesied its destruction, which Rome fulfilled in AD 70. The temple represented God's presence among His people and prefigured Christ, the true temple.
JezreelJezreel was both a city and a fertile valley (also called the Valley of Megiddo or Armageddon). King Ahab had a palace here where Jezebel orchestrated Naboth's murder for his vineyard. Jehu killed Jezebel here, fulfilling Elijah's prophecy. The valley has been a battlefield throughout history and is associated with end-times prophecy.
Jordan RiverThe Jordan River is the most significant river in biblical history, flowing from Mount Hermon to the Dead Sea. The Israelites miraculously crossed it to enter the Promised Land under Joshua. Naaman was healed of leprosy by washing in its waters. Most importantly, John the Baptist baptized Jesus in this river, marking the beginning of his public ministry. The river symbolizes transition, cleansing, and new beginnings.
JudahJudah was the southern kingdom formed after the division of Israel following Solomon's death. With Jerusalem as its capital, it was ruled by the descendants of David. The kingdom lasted from around 930 BC until the Babylonian conquest in 586 BC. The prophets Habakkuk, Jeremiah, and Isaiah ministered during its final years, warning of coming judgment.
JudeaJudea was the southern region of Israel, centered on Jerusalem. It was the heart of the ancient kingdom of Judah. Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, was crucified in Jerusalem, and the early church spread from Judea to the ends of the earth.
Kadesh BarneaKadesh Barnea was an oasis in the wilderness of Zin, southern Canaan's border. From here Moses sent spies into Canaan. When the people rebelled at the spies' report, God condemned that generation to wander 40 years. It was also where Moses struck the rock.
Kibroth-hattaavahKibroth-hattaavah, meaning 'graves of craving' or 'graves of lust,' was a location in the wilderness where the Israelites camped during their Exodus journey. It became a site of divine judgment when the people complained about manna and craved meat. God sent quail in abundance, but those who indulged excessively were struck with a plague and buried there, giving the place its solemn name.
Kingdom of IsraelThe Kingdom of Israel was the northern kingdom established after the division of Solomon's united kingdom around 930 BC, consisting of ten tribes. It existed for about 200 years until its conquest by Assyria in 722 BC, with its capital eventually established at Samaria.
Land of UzThe land of Uz was where Job lived. Its exact location is uncertain, but it was probably in the region east of the Jordan River, possibly in Edom or northern Arabia. Job is described as the greatest man among all the peoples of the East who lived in this land.
LehiLehi (meaning "jawbone") was a place where Samson killed a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey. Afterward, God provided water from a hollow place at Lehi when Samson was dying of thirst, calling the place En Hakkore ("spring of him who called").
MagdalaMagdala was a fishing town on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. It was the hometown of Mary Magdalene, one of Jesus' most devoted followers who witnessed both His crucifixion and resurrection. The town was known for its fish processing and boat building.
MaltaMalta (called Melita in Acts) is the island in the Mediterranean Sea where Paul was shipwrecked on his journey to Rome. The islanders showed unusual kindness. Paul survived a viper bite unharmed and healed the sick, leading many to honor him and provide supplies for his continuing journey.
