Your Privacy & Data
Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains how 5 Minutes Bible collects, uses, and protects your information.
Last updated: 2026-08-28
Information We Collect
We collect minimal information to provide and improve our services:
- Usage data (pages visited, time spent) via anonymous analytics
- Language and theme preferences stored locally in your browser
- An account is optional. If you create one, we store your email address (see "If you create an account" below). If you use the AI character chat, the messages you send are collected (see "AI Character Chat" below)
How We Use Information
The information we collect is used to:
- Improve the user experience and site performance
- Understand which content is most useful to visitors
- Remember your preferences (language, dark/light mode)
Local Storage
We use local storage to save your preferences (theme, audio progress). We use Umami for anonymous site usage statistics - it does not use cookies and does not collect personal data.
AI Character Chat
Our optional AI chat lets you talk with Bible characters. When you send a message:
- The content of your messages is sent to Anthropic (Claude) to generate the reply, and is stored on our servers to operate the feature, prevent abuse, and improve quality.
- We store a one-way hashed (non-reversible) version of your IP address for rate-limiting - never your raw IP.
- Please do not share sensitive personal information in the chat. You can ask us to delete your chat data at any time.
Third-Party Services
We may use third-party services such as:
- Map tiles from CartoDB/OpenStreetMap
- Umami analytics (cookie-free, privacy-focused)
- Anthropic (Claude) to power the AI character chat
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we may have. Contact us for any privacy-related requests.
Data stored on your device
Some features save data in your browser rather than on our servers:
- Reading progress, bookmarks, highlights and notes.
- Your language and display preferences.
- This data stays on your device unless you export it, or create an account to sync it.
If you create an account
An account is optional, and it exists so your reading can follow you from one device to another. If you create one:
- We store your email address. It is used to send your sign-in link and to identify your account. There is no password, so there is no password for us to store.
- Your reading plans, bookmarks, highlights and notes are copied to our servers so they reach your other devices. They stay on your device as well.
- We do not sell your email address and we do not send marketing. You can delete your account, and everything in it, yourself at any time from the account page.
