Transjordan

These tribes had large herds of livestock and saw that the land east of Jordan was excellent for grazing. They requested this territory from Moses because it suited their pastoral needs better than the land west of Jordan.

There was concern that by settling outside the Promised Land proper, these tribes might become spiritually distant from the covenant community and more susceptible to foreign influences and idolatry, which unfortunately proved true when they were later exiled.
